Funding for artists

At the same time, it’s pretty easy to dismiss this idea of using old video game sound chips to cover well-known tunes as just some kind of novelty gimmick.

Ticket giveaways are a powerful way to get people out to your show. You can hand out physical tickets near the venue or contact local radio stations, podcasts, blogs, local stores, etc. to see if they’d be into giving away tickets to your event, for example, as part of a contest. If nothing else, you’ll create buzz around the event.

Rap albums to listen to

So much of today’s new technologies tend to offer (at least in marketing speak) out-of-the-box solutions to musicians’ and students’ problems. Softwares and plugins, devices and networks, are all designed to minimize the rough edges around taking the time to learn things the hard way, practice them, and interact with things and people. And while these tools are optional, and do provide new avenues for creative expression and learning, they sometimes also skip over some crucial steps in the lifelong learning process of the artist, particularly those steps that historically have happened in the classroom.

Soundfly partners with leading edge music education sites and services to bring you unique tips, tools, and stories to empower and inspire our community to find their sound.

Nea steam grant

The very first time I can recall hearing this song on my parents’ turntable, I was struck by that groovy little bass riff between the lyric lines “tell you something” and “I think you’ll understand,” and repeated throughout the verses in the same spot. What makes this little flurry of notes so clever is the sudden change in meter (coming out of the slow, steady rocking on the root and sometimes the fifth) and the double emphasis on the leading tones.

In 2013, a 20-year-old Miley Cyrus was trying to shed her Hannah Montana good-girl youth image. Stuff like that can usually take an album or two, a couple promotion campaigns, and some time to sculpt, but not for Miley. Her image was resculpted in a matter of minutes with this viral good-girl-gone-bad performance at the the VMAs alongside the also-controversial Robin Thicke.

Always make a poster or flyer to have a visual for the event. It can, but doesn’t always have to be professional. Images give people something associated with your event that they can stare at or share. Ideally you want all the details about the show on the poster itself (ticket price, doors, bands, venue, address, age restriction, etc.). But if you can find other areas to post that information in favor of clean design, that’s up to you. A simple poster is a good poster.

Maybe you had a stressful day at work. Maybe you just got the kids to bed and you’re exhausted. Or maybe you’ve got school work that’s due tomorrow. In each of these scenarios, you’re not left with very much time to do music. And getting stuff done in the little time you have is so difficult, so here are some tips for staying efficient despite the lack of time.

Companies willing to donate raffle prizes

In this piece, harmony and melody are very limited. Harmony is non-existent (if considered as the use of at least three different pitches at the same time) and melody is reduced to one single note, with the only possible combinations resulting in unisons and octaves.

Kakashi is another example of a great record that went into obscurity after its first pressing only to be dug out and rereleased by Better Days and Jet Set Records. Shimizu, a saxophonist and composer, worked with all kinds of musicians and collaborators, including Sakamoto and even artist Nam-June Paik. This record is deeply hypnotic and visits all kinds of soundscapes throughout, always with the saxophone placed at the center of attention.
