Here’s an obvious one. The clothes you wear when you’re on stage are a costume and you should think of them as such. Even just wearing your everyday street clothes is going to communicate something to the audience. It sounds annoying and unfortunate, but I guarantee that you do it too when you see a concert: judge a band based on their rags.

Inspiration may strike like lightning, but just about as frequently, so go out and find your own stories, ideas, characters, and narratives in these blogs!

Emerging curator grants

Your mentor will then take the results of that phone call and put them into a personalized Learning Plan (LP) — and yes, we do get a kick out of calling it an LP, thank you very much. This includes your big-picture goals and activities that you plan to work towards in your four-week session. Your LP may evolve during the session, but it’s intended to provide an initial roadmap to ensure you’re on the same page with your mentor.

Always make a poster or flyer to have a visual for the event. It can, but doesn’t always have to be professional. Images give people something associated with your event that they can stare at or share. Ideally you want all the details about the show on the poster itself (ticket price, doors, bands, venue, address, age restriction, etc.). But if you can find other areas to post that information in favor of clean design, that’s up to you. A simple poster is a good poster.

International teaching fellowship

Raven: Alicia is just a special student. She comes to songwriting with a bright and unique voice, crafting lyrics that are conversational yet biting. As a student, she is diligent and hard-working. She receives feedback with grace and uses it as a means to enhancing her writing. I can’t say enough good things about her!

The main takeaway here is that you don’t have to follow a typical form if you don’t want to! There’s so much great through-composed music, and sometimes, it can be really freeing to embrace this kind of writing.

American chamber music society

This would also be a good place to bring up that some music theory people don’t consider two-note intervals “chords.” But my take on that whole controversy is that, when naming things, it should be taken into account how our brains ascertain tonal information based on everything we’ve heard before, in all of music. It’s just something our brains do, so why deny it because we selfishly want a more tidy nomenclature?
